Another fun night – happy crowd, lovely weather, stunning work on the theme of ‘3’, yummy wine and nibbles – what more could you ask for on a birthday?

With the Hobart Collective in the Hammer and Hand shop an the Salamanca Arts Centre…Walking in here after a bit of a time away ….this has to be the most intriguing little establishment in the Multiverse … Stephen, Scott, Ella Knight, her partner Mat, Vaughn, his partner Nicky,Rosie and myself.

Happy Birthday Hammer and Hand Jewellery and Metal Collective! Celebrating three years in the Byron Arts and Industry Park!

Hammer and Hand saw its inception in Hobart Tasmania in 1994 when Bruce Pringle, set up his first collective.  Since then, the collective’s unique structure has seen some 56 artists of all skill levels become part of the Hammer and Hand family.

Three years ago, Bruce (whose passion for and expertise in all things metal are legendary), brought his successful formula to Byron Bay, when he established the working studio/gallery at 4 Ti Tree Place, Byron Bay Arts and Industry Park. Here local metal artists have a venue where they can design, make, display and sell an eclectic and avant-garde range of handmade jewellery, sculptural pieces and utensils. There is a commitment to provide quality hand made pieces by local makers. Each member is an individual business. Visitors every day of the week can see a different artist at work in the studio.

The Byron Bay collective currently has eleven members and they are celebrating their third birthday with an exhibition of works inspired by paradigms of a 3 fold nature – entitled simply “3 “. All are welcome to attend on Friday 28 October 5-8 pm.

A couple of days ago a Blacksmith and a Painter dropped by the workshop and brightened up our day …and it already was  pretty bright……..www.peterandrosielaszlo.blogspot.com It’s people who make this life worth living.

….have been having a great time creating pieces for our ‘3’ exhibition which is coming up in but a few short weeks, but have managed to take some time to explore other ideas that don’t fit the ‘three’ tag, no matter how far i stretch my imagination

3 is a very important number – more important than 4 to most of us. When people talk of numbers I’m always reminded of Sesame Street.

Our lives are filled with paradigms of a 3 fold nature…

• mind, body & spirit
• past, present and future
• art, science & religion
• 3 dimensions of space
• there are 3 primary colours
• in grammar 3 persons express all the relationships of people
• animal, vegetable & mineral
• thought, word & deed
• and so on and so on and so on

Recently , I was asked to make two  panels to follow on from one I had made earlier, of Thylacines missing from our environment .. The brief was to include one with an indidgenous theme and including Nimbin Rocks with Sphinx Rock and the third to depict Byron Bay and lighthouse .
